The current owner, picked up the Hebmüller, restored, about 12 years ago from a Auto Body Shop in Denver Colorado, around 2006. The previous owner was Dr. Base Leon, a dentist who was stationed in Germany in 1955-57 and bought the Hebmüller there. He shipped the Hebmüller to the USA to his home in Rockport, Illinois. Later on he lost interests in the Hebmüller and gave to his son who later moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 2000 and the Hebmüller was in need of restoration. The son sold it to the owner of the Auto Body Shop in Denver, in 2003. The front clip on the Hebmüller has been replaced. It does have the original chassis. (BG)
update: 28/06/2023- Bob Gilmore visite the owner of this Type14a. after some petrol talk, the car was examinated and this is found. Chassis nr was misread in the past. :
Blase M. Leon, who was a dentist stationed in the US Army, Germany between 1955-57. Dr. Leon states that the original German title indicated the Hebmüller was first registered in October 1949. The original German title was turned over to the US Army Provost Marshall in order to get a US Army personal vehicle registration title. In 1957, Dr. Leon shipped the ‘49 Hebmüller to the USA, to his home in Rockport, Illinois. Sometime later on Dr. Leon lost interest in the ’49 Hebmüller and gave the VW to his son who later moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 2000. By then, the ‘49 Hebmüller was in need of restoration.
The son sold the ’49 Hebmüller to the owner of the Auto Body Shop in Denver, in 2003. The Auto Body Shop restored the ’49 Hebmüller and used the front section, chassis and engine from a donor 1950 Split Window VW Sedan. Unfortunately, the original 1949 VW VIN plate, Hebmüller Aufbau-Nr plate and the Hebmüller 14-00??? body number was lost during the restoration.
The current owner bought the restored Hebmüller in 2006 and registered the car in Arizona in September 2006. The front section of the Hebmüller has the 1950 VW Sedan body number of 120 782 showing. That 120 782 number is used as the VIN on the Arizona registration for the Hebmuller. The chassis VIN is 0183840 and the 25HP motor serial number is 1-0220741 which both reflect a 1950 model year. As mentioned before, this Hebmuller VW has been restored, is operational and is in excellent condition. (BG)
In August 2023 the car was sold to his new owner in Japan.
