In 1970 I bought myself a Tornax 600 motorcycle with sidecar from 1929. Ever since I am an enthusiast for the Tornax brand and I collected everything I could get about Tornax. Meanwhile I have documents of all types of motorcycles ever have been built by Ernst Wewer, founder and owner of Tornax in Wuppertal. Over the years I collected a good number of other Tornax motorcycles. Due to my contacts to about 200 other owners of Tornax motorcycles I initiated the establishment of the Tornax IG in 1994. What I missed in my collection, however, was a Tornax Rex roadster. I saw one for the first time at the occasion of a vintage car market and I asked the owner how to get one. He gave me the hint that there might be one for sale at museum at Aachen. 1996 I contacted the owner of the museum and I asked him whether I might see his Rex. So I visited the museum and a mong many other not restored cars I detected the Rex standing on somewhat shaky feet. When I asked the guy whether the car would be for sale he answered: Museum cars never are for sale except if the price is at least so and so. This was out of my world and I drove home not without taking a good number of photos of the Rex. From time to time I phoned the museum - owner without success. After another 6 month I finally made an offer which obviously pleased him and he agreed for the sale.Immediately I drove to Aachen and picked up the car before he was going to change his mind– this was March 22, 1997. Together with a friend of mine who owned just the chassis of a Tornax Rex were built 2 Tornax Rex. The other one is Registry No. 027. Mine is back on the road since April 2003. Horst Harder
